Demat & Trading Account
Open a Demat and trading account with our broking partner and hold your equities in one place.
What it is
A Demat account holds your shares and securities electronically. A trading account is what you use to buy and sell them on the exchanges. In practice they are opened together.
Your Demat account sits with a depository — CDSL or NSDL — through a depository participant, and your trading account sits with the broker. Shares bought are credited to the Demat account in your name; nobody else can move them without your authorisation.
You will need PAN, Aadhaar-linked mobile, a bank account and a signature for the application. Most of it is completed online with e-sign, and the account is usually active within a day or two.
One point worth understanding before you start: a trading account invites activity, and activity is where most retail money is lost. If your objective is long-term wealth rather than trading, a mutual fund folio will serve you better than a screen full of prices.

Open your account with our broking partner
Account opening is completed on our broking partner's own platform. The broking relationship, brokerage and all terms are entirely between you and our broking partner Financial Services.
Demat & trading account — important disclosure. Money Pathshala acts solely as a referral partner for our broking partner Financial Services Ltd. We are not a stock broker, sub-broker, authorised person, research analyst, and we are not registered with SEBI in any of those capacities. We do not open, operate or hold any authority over your trading or Demat account, we do not place trades, and we do not provide buy, sell or hold recommendations on securities.
The account is opened directly with our broking partner Financial Services Ltd, who are responsible for KYC, account maintenance, brokerage, margin, settlement and all statutory obligations. Their brokerage schedule, terms and conditions, risk disclosure document and rights & obligations statement govern the relationship entirely. Please read them before opening the account.
We may receive a referral fee from our broking partner where an account is opened through our link. Investments in the securities market are subject to market risks. Read all the related documents carefully before investing. Trading in equity, and particularly intraday or leveraged trading, carries a high risk of capital loss.

What could go wrong
- Equity trading carries a high risk of capital loss, and intraday or leveraged trading substantially more.
- Brokerage, exchange charges, STT, GST and stamp duty apply to transactions and reduce net returns.
- Never share your password, PIN or OTP with anyone, including anyone claiming to be from the broker or from us.
- Money Pathshala acts only as a referral point. We are not a stock broker or a research analyst, and we do not give trading calls.
Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks. Read all scheme related documents carefully. Insurance is the subject matter of solicitation. Loan and deposit products are governed by the terms of the respective lender or issuer.
No. Mutual fund units can be held in a statement-of-account form directly with the AMC, which is how most investors hold them. A Demat account is only necessary for shares, ETFs, bonds and if you specifically want your fund units in demat form.
Most brokers charge an annual maintenance charge, and brokerage applies per trade. The exact schedule is published by our broking partner on their platform — read it before you open, not after.
No, and we cannot. We are not a broker and hold no trading authorisation. Your relationship for broking is directly with our broking partner Financial Services, and you place your own orders.
